YOUscription is a place for sharing our questions and experiences on health. These pearls of wisdom are then mined to generate youscriptions for our health.
What makes YOUscription unusual as a "health center" is that there are no doctors here. Well, actually, among the 51 members of YOUscription, there are probably some who practice as doctors out there in the "real world". But here, as a member of YOUscription, even the doctors among us are granted no louder (nor no quieter) a voice for speaking to our community on matters of health. (That being said, we amateurs really do appreciate hearing from you doctors. :))
On YOUscription, the only expert on the health of your body and your mind is you. The core idea here is that if we all share our questions and experiences on health, then out of our collective voices might emerge some useful ideas. But whether those ideas are indeed useful is entirely up to you to decide.
YOUscription was started up my me, Peter Savich, in January 2007. Helping greatly on this project in those early days was my sister Kathy Graham.
My idea for this site originated with a blog I run called Duck and Gather. I launched that blog in late 2003. The basic theme behind it was and is a sense of mine that America, with the rest of the world tethered to it, is headed for disasters that will challenge our very survival. Hence the "Duck" half of that name.
YOUscription is my vision for the other half of "Duck and Gather". That is, after we all "duck" whatever sort of crises are coming our way, we'll need to gather in order to solve the ensuing challenges.
I believe that one of the biggest challenges we'll be facing in these times concerns our health. And I firmly believe that the best place to start on that score is by assuming personal responsibility for our own health, and that of our families.
But none of us is an island. We need each other. Hence YOUscription.
